A mural project carried out by students of the Department of Art Education within the Faculty of Education, as part of the Community Service Practices course, has been successfully completed. The project, supervised by Dr. Kemal Özen and supported by Scientific Research Projects (BAP), has added significant aesthetic and artistic value to the university campus.
Over the course of approximately three months, senior students from the Department of Art Education — Alper Akay, Ali Osman Abdioğlu, Kerem Babaoğlu, Ayşenur Bakırcı, Edanur Eker, Hilal Coşkun, Emine Sena Gediş, Merve Orhangazi, and Sümeyra Kul — took active roles from the design stage through to implementation, contributing to the creation of a large-scale mural that now enriches campus life.
Conducted within the scope of the Community Service Practices course, the project not only helped students develop their artistic knowledge and skills but also provided valuable experience in teamwork, planning, visual communication, and social responsibility. While experiencing the transformative power of art in public spaces, students also strengthened their sense of belonging to their environment.
Contributing to the aesthetic appearance of the university campus, the mural allows art to become part of everyday life and serves as a tangible example of the strong connection between art education and social engagement. Such public-space projects encourage students to apply their knowledge and skills for the benefit of society while also fostering social interaction through art.
Following the completion of the project, a ceremony was held on June 18, 2026, during which certificates of appreciation were presented to the contributing students and to project supervisor Dr. Kemal Özen. The certificates were awarded by the Rector, Prof. Dr. Fatih Yılmaz, honoring both the students and their academic advisor for their dedicated efforts throughout the project.
As the Faculty of Education, we continue to support initiatives that foster our students’ artistic, professional, and social development, enrich university life, and prioritize social contribution. We congratulate our faculty member and students who contributed to this meaningful project that enhances the cultural and aesthetic development of our campus, and we wish them continued success.
